Greetings! While I am not new to the Ronald McDonald House, I have had the privilege to serve as a Night & Weekend Supervisor, looking after the House while the daytime staff members are not present, for approximately eight years. What is new, and why you are seeing this post, is that I have recently taken on the position of the Guest Services Assistant here at the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Madison.
As the Guest Services Assistant, I will be helping ensure that guests have a smooth and welcoming experience while arriving and staying at the House as well as working to secure alternative accommodation when the House is full. Additionally, I will be helping to coordinate the various in-house services and programs provided to our guest families.
The importance of public and community service was instilled as a core value at an early age. Growing up, I helped with countless PTA and League of Women Voters projects. In high school, I volunteered at Red Cross blood drives. After studying Political Science at the University of Wisconsin – Madison, I entered the public sector, working first in the State Assembly and then the Governor’s Office. When the opportunity to join the Ronald McDonald House as Night & Weekend Supervisor came up, I jumped at the chance.
It is hard for me to single out a favorite facet of the services that the House offers; however, I have often heard families remark that at the end of a long day knowing there is a home-cooked meal waiting for them here at the House is a relief. For me, knowing that in my own small part, I am helping make a difficult time a bit easier for our guest families, allowing them to focus on the health and wellbeing of their child, is extremely fulfilling.
While I have been with the House for quite some time, this new position allows me to experience a different side of the organization and I am eager to take on the new challenges and opportunities for service.
