Superheroes Steal the Day

Heroes come in all shapes and sizes, especially at RMHC-Madison. This is a time for guests to find their superpowers, going to infinity and beyond as they navigate their child’s medical treatment while keeping their family’s daily routine as normal as possible.
This past Sunday – April 28 – was National Superhero Day. So, we could think of no better way to make a drizzly afternoon a little extra special than by celebrating with costumed characters, fun activities, snacks, and a very special meal for families. Even our staff and volunteers got in on the fun!
RMHC-Madison also recognizes businesses and individuals who go above and beyond with their time, treasure, and talents. We fondly refer to them as House Heroes. One such organization – Humana Foundation – rocketed to superhero status during April’s Volunteer Appreciation Month with an incredible gift directly tied to our mission.
During Humana’s Double Match Day, more than 1,700 employees generously donated almost $300,000 to their favorite charitable organizations, including RMHC. With Humana’s 2:1 match, that day’s combined impact totaled more than $800,000, a testament to the power of collective giving.
Michael Ehlers, a local sales agent for Humana, and 11 other employees nationwide were randomly selected to direct a $25,000 or $50,000 grant to the charity of their choice as part of the match event. He chose Ronald McDonald House Charities of Madison.
Michael was introduced to RMHC by his partner, Sarah Taylor, whose family stayed at Ronald McDonald Houses in St. Louis and Indianapolis during her son’s long journey to receive a kidney transplant. They visited the House in Madison to explore volunteer opportunities this year, not knowing how soon – and how big – he’d make an impact. See the WKOW-TV story here.
Why not make every day a Superhero Day?! What superpower would you use to help others in need?
