Building on Hope Capital Campaign EXCEEDS Goal

May 8th, 2019 | News

Ronald McDonald House Charities of Madison successfully completed a $8.9 million capital campaign to fund the expansion and renovation of the Ronald McDonald House in Madison near the American Family Children’s Hospital.

The campaign received lead gifts of $1 million each from the Madison and Rockford area McDonald’s Owner/Operators and Abbvie, a North Chicago based pharmaceutical company.

The new 32,000 square foot facility, which will open in summer 2019, includes 31 guest rooms with private baths; larger kitchen and dining areas; more outdoor space; new play areas; and much-needed underground parking.

“We are extremely grateful for the many generous individuals, foundations, and corporations who opened their hearts to help expand the Ronald McDonald House, giving more families of sick and injured children a place to stay and ensuring we will not have to turn away families when they need us most,” said Kevin Huddleston, Executive Director, RMHC-Madison.

The nearly doubled in size facility is crucial to fulfilling the mission of keeping families together by providing temporary housing and support services to families of sick and injured children receiving medical care at nearby hospitals. Since the early stages of campaign planning, there were a total of 1,495 night stays that we were unable to accommodate families at the House because no rooms were available. The new House will enable us to meet the increased demand for services.

“The Ronald McDonald House in Madison was born out of a huge outpouring of community support more than 25 years ago. A dedicated and generous group of people had a vision for a place where families could stay together near their sick child without incurring the financial hardship of being far from home,” said John Flad, Capital Campaign Honorary Chair. “The Building on Hope Campaign to expand the House was no different. The love and support expressed by the Madison community is what made this campaign a success and a tremendously fulfilling experience.”
