AbbVie Announces $100 Million Donation to RMHC

Abbvie, a North Chicago based pharmaceutical company, made a historic $100 million gift to RMHC Global to benefit more than 30 Ronald McDonald Houses across the country. This donation, the largest single gift in RMHC’s history, will provide housing and family-centered services for pediatric patients and their families during hospital treatment across the United States.
Abbvie’s goal with this gift was to complete funding for Chapters undertaking a campaign to expand their Houses and to provide for more families, who otherwise, might have been turned away.
“Having a child with a serious illness is one of the most difficult experiences anyone can face,” said Laura Schumacher, Executive Vice President, AbbVie. “Our donation is grounded in the shared belief that families should have the necessary resources to care for a hospitalized child, along with the support to strengthen their well-being and resiliency during a challenging time.”
The Building on Hope Campaign to renovate and expand the Madison Ronald McDonald House received two grants from Abbvie totaling more than $1 million. AbbVie’s support will further enable Ronald McDonald House Charities of Madison to provide a welcoming place for families to stay along with the critical services they need.
“Working in collaboration with RMHC Global staff, we were able to make a compelling case for supporting the Building on Hope capital campaign. We provided information about the need for the expansion and the increased number of families we would be able to serve with an expanded House and Abbvie responded to our need,” said Kevin Huddleston, Executive Director, RMHC-Madison.
We are grateful to AbbVie for this $100 million transformational gift to RMHC, which will be used to build family-centered spaces and more than 600 new guest sleeping rooms in at least 26 states and at 32 Ronald McDonald Houses. This will allow for approximately 230,000 additional night stays for pediatric patients and their families each year, helping RMHC Chapters to meet increasing demand and serve more families.
