Running for a Cause
July 27th, 2022 | Events
Life often brings people together for good causes. As a nursing student, Jasmin Redders volunteered with RMHC-Upper Midwest in Minneapolis, MN in the evenings, making dinners for families and helping with weekly bingo night. She moved to Madison after graduation and began working as a birthing center nurse at UnityPoint Health – Meriter Hospital and now helps families postpartum in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and as a lactation consultant. An avid runner, she found a way to continue supporting families by running the Bank of America Chicago Marathon as part of Team RMHC.
Jasmin and fellow postpartum nurse, Heather Bernhard, discovered their passion for nursing, running and RMHC intersected in 2021. Both were training for the same marathon on behalf of the same charity! They decided to partner together and raise money for RMHC-Madison, and in 2022 agreed to co-captain the team. This will be Jasmin’s third race and Heather’s second marathon running for Team RMHC. Madi VanDerHill, also a postpartum nurse is the third member of their team.
“I continue to be amazed by the simple yet so important opportunity that RMHC offers families-to stay close to their loved ones,” said Redders.
While Team RMHC currently has a waitlist for runners, you can cheer on Jasmin, Heather, and Madi leading up to the October 9th marathon by donating to their team here. Proceeds are shared 50/50 between RMHC Global and RMHC-Madison. Now that is something worth running for!
