2022 Heart  & Soul Award Recipients

May 27th, 2022 | Our Partners

The Heart & Soul Award began to provide recognition to a different type of volunteer, maybe not one who is there on a daily basis, but who is always right there when you need them, someone who helps in many ways but does not fit the “standard definition” of regular volunteer. The Heart & Soul Award is given to someone who is a great ambassador, friend, and helper. Congratulations to our two award winners for 2022 – National Charity League Madison Chapter and Junior League of Madison!

National Charity League Madison Chapter

“Looking for a way to share the value of volunteering with my daughter, I found National Charity League (NCL), a mother and daughter organization established in California in 1925, with a chapter started in Madison in 2010. Glenna and I joined when she was entering 7th grade and NCL served many philanthropies, the Ronald McDonald House was one of the first Madison area ones served by NCL and continues to be one of the favored of our chapter. Since 2015, Glenna and I have helped make many meals, mastering food prep techniques and loving the time with fellow NCL sisters while preparing meals together for Ronald McDonald House guests. Glenna valued the mission at Ronald McDonald House and when the expansion called for recipes to feed more families, she researched and came up with new ones as a passion project. Our family continues to participate even now as Glenna is attending UW Madison, her brother Jack loves to come help too. NCL has logged more than 3,645 hours serving the Ronald McDonald House since 2010 with baking, cooking, decorating lunch bags.”

Junior League of Madison

“Ronald McDonald House of Madison has such special meaning not only to the Junior League of Madison (JLM) but also to me personally. I joined Junior League in 2017 as a way to meet other like-minded women that also wanted to give back and strengthen the Madison community. My very first volunteer opportunity was cooking a meal at Ronald McDonald House. My culinary skills are less than desirable, but the look on the faces of the families gathering to eat dinner together after a long day of supporting a sick child and maintaining their family unit was all that it took for me to see how truly special Ronald McDonald House of Madison is.

While I have only been a member of JLM for a short time, I have had numerous discussions with many of our founding and sustaining members about the fundraising efforts League did to help bring Ronald McDonald House to Madison, writing Ronald McDonald House’s first volunteer handbook, and cooking meals for families staying at the house. Junior League of Madison has always appreciated the support Ronald McDonald House of Madison has done for the community and appreciates our partnership.”
